Indian Railways Achieves Milestone by Transporting Heart via Vande Bharat Express

A Historic Journey for a Life-Saving Mission

In a remarkable display of speed and precision, Indian Railways successfully transported a beating human heart from Surat to Ahmedabad using the Vande Bharat Express. This operation marks the third time the railways have set a new benchmark in emergency medical services.

On Sunday, the heart was transported from New Civil Hospital in Surat to Ahmedabad via the Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express (Train No. C-12). Timeliness is crucial in heart transplants, as the donor heart must be implanted within a specific timeframe.

Green Corridor Established from Ahmedabad Station to Hospital

Upon the train's arrival at Platform No. 1 of Ahmedabad Railway Station, a pre-planned strategy was executed. A seamless 'green corridor' was established with the collaboration of railway commercial staff, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and Gujarat state police, ensuring the heart reached the U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center in record time.

V. Prakash, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Ahmedabad, stated that this is the third instance where the Vande Bharat Express has been effectively utilized to transport a living organ swiftly and safely. He emphasized that Indian Railways' modern and timely services extend beyond regular passenger travel, playing a vital role in saving lives during emergencies. The Western Railway ensured excellent coordination with all involved hospitals, police, and medical teams to make this sensitive operation a success.
