Indian Parliamentary Delegation Concludes US Visit Highlighting Counter-Terrorism Efforts
Conclusion of the US Visit by Indian Delegation
Under the leadership of Shashi Tharoor, a multi-party parliamentary delegation wrapped up its visit to the United States on Saturday. During their trip, they engaged with various diplomatic and political figures, including US Vice President J.D. Vance and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, emphasizing India's strong resolve against terrorism supported by Pakistan.
This delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, arrived in the US as part of India's outreach initiative following 'Operation Sindoor.' This operation was launched in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals.
The delegation was one of seven multi-party Indian teams dispatched to 33 global capitals to inform the international community about Pakistan's involvement in terrorism.
Arriving in Washington, D.C. on June 3, the delegation spent three days meeting with US lawmakers, foreign policy experts, representatives from think tanks, media, and the Indian diaspora.
Tharoor described his approximately 25-minute meeting with Vice President Vance at the White House as 'excellent.' He stated to a news agency, 'Vance expressed outrage over the Pahalgam attack and showed support for India's measured response under Operation Sindoor.' The delegation also held discussions with several US lawmakers, including leaders from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, India Caucus, and Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
