The oil tanker was en route from the Mexican port of Veracruz.

According to the statement, despite poor visibility and the lack of a suitable landing area on the tanker, the Navy managed to extract the sailor. The request for the urgent evacuation of the Indian crew member was received from the Information Center in the Indian Ocean region due to medical reasons.

The statement elaborated, 'Upon receiving the alert, a 'Sea King' helicopter stationed on INS Garuda in Kochi was dispatched immediately. Additionally, INS Sharda was also sent to assist in the evacuation of the patient.'
