Indian Nationals and Students Evacuated Amid Rising Tensions in Tehran
Safety Measures for Indian Nationals in Iran
New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed the relocation of Indian students from Tehran and has facilitated the exit of some Indian nationals through the Armenia border due to the intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran.
As the conflict reached its fifth day, hostilities escalated with Iran launching missiles at Israel, prompting air raid alerts in Haifa and numerous other locations in northern Israel and the Golan Heights, as reported by the Israeli military.
The MEA stated, “Indian students in Tehran have been relocated for safety reasons, with arrangements made by the Embassy. Other residents who can manage their own transport have also been advised to leave the city due to the evolving situation.”
Additionally, the MEA noted that some Indians have been assisted in departing Iran via the Armenia border.
The Indian Embassy is actively communicating with the community to offer necessary support and will issue further advisories regarding the safety of Indian nationals.
Earlier, India urged its citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) in Iran to evacuate Tehran and find safer locations amid rising tensions.
The Indian Embassy in Iran posted on X, advising, “All Indian Nationals and PIOs who can leave Tehran using their own means are encouraged to move to a safe area outside the city.”
Indians were instructed to maintain contact with the Embassy and share their locations and phone numbers.
Helpline numbers were also provided by the Embassy — +989010144557; +989128109115; +989128109109 — to assist with the evacuation process.
This advisory comes as Israel warned residents to evacuate central Tehran, indicating a potential escalation in military actions against Iran.
Avichay Adraee, a spokesperson for the Israeli military, urged residents of District C in northeastern Tehran to evacuate, stating, “In the coming hours, the Israeli army will operate in this area to target military infrastructure associated with the Iranian regime.”
He emphasized, “Your presence in this area endangers your life. For your safety, we urge you to evacuate immediately.”
District C houses several key state institutions, government offices, and communication facilities, according to reports.
The Israeli military also announced that its warplanes have targeted trucks carrying weapons and missile launchers moving from western Iran towards Tehran.
