Historic Victory for Indian Duo

In a remarkable turn of events, India's men's doubles team consisting of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun triumphed over the higher-seeded Malaysian pair, Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing, at the ongoing Indonesia Open in Jakarta. This victory marks their first advancement to the BWF World Tour Super 1000 quarterfinals.

The Indian duo initially struggled, losing the first game 16-21. However, they rallied back to win the second game 21-15, forcing a decisive third game. Despite trailing 16-17 in the final game, they regained control and clinched the match after 48 minutes of intense play. Their next challenge will be against the seventh-seeded Malaysian team of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin.

Notable Achievements

Currently ranked 30th in the world, Hari and Arjun gained recognition earlier this year by defeating former World No. 6 and World Championship medalists Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi at the India Open. They were also part of the bronze medal-winning Thomas Cup team in 2026.

In other matches, PV Sindhu faced a setback, losing to An Se Young with scores of 17-21, 15-21 in the women's singles. Meanwhile, Ayush Shetty was eliminated by Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu, with scores of 21-16, 13-21, 14-21.

Withdrawal of Satwik-Chirag

The Indian campaign at the Indonesia Open faced a significant blow when the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty withdrew due to an injury sustained by Satwik. The duo had to retire from their first-round match against the Malaysian team of Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) confirmed the withdrawal, emphasizing that the pair will concentrate on recovery and rehabilitation for upcoming tournaments. The BAI expressed their wishes for a swift recovery for Satwik, looking forward to their return to the court.
