Indian Man Admits to Disposing of Wife's Body in Virginia Court
Virginia Case of Body Disposal
Virginia: An individual of Indian descent has confessed in court to dismembering his wife's body with a saw and knife after her death, although he denies murdering her. He claims that his wife took her own life, and in a panic, he attempted to dispose of her remains.
What the Accused Stated in Court
According to media reports, Naresh Bhatt (39) is facing trial in Virginia regarding the death of his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt (28), who went missing in July 2024, and her body has yet to be found.
During his testimony on November 5, 2026, Naresh recounted that on the morning of July 30, 2024, he discovered his wife unconscious in their bedroom. He noted that there was vomit around her and an open packet of pesticide nearby.
Naresh asserted that he tried to save his wife for about an hour but was unsuccessful. He also admitted in court that he did not contact the police or emergency services immediately, stating he was extremely anxious at that moment.
Confession to Disposing of the Body
Naresh revealed in court that after his wife's death, he became frightened and began contemplating ways to hide her body. Initially, he considered throwing her remains into a river but later attempted to place her in a trash bin, which he claimed was too small.
He confessed that he then used a saw and knife to cut the body into pieces so that he could fit them into garbage bags. He stated that he disposed of the bagged remains in a trash bin.
Denial of Murder Charges
Naresh Bhatt faces charges of murder, concealing a body, and tampering with evidence. However, he has denied the murder allegations, asserting that Mamta's death was a suicide.
The prosecution alleges that Naresh attempted to destroy evidence and conceal his wife's body after committing murder. Forensic evidence and blood traces were reportedly found during the investigation.
Body Still Missing After Over Two Years
Mamta Kafle Bhatt went missing from Manassas Park, Virginia, in July 2024. An investigation has been ongoing since charges were filed against her husband, but her body has not yet been recovered.
The prosecution is working to establish its case against the accused based on circumstantial and forensic evidence, while the defense maintains that Naresh did not kill Mamta. The court proceedings are still ongoing, and the accused has not yet been convicted.
