Men's Kabaddi Team Secures Final Spot
The Indian men's kabaddi team has successfully secured their place in the finals of the Asian Games 2026, taking place in Aichi-Nagoya, after a decisive victory over Thailand in the semifinals.
India triumphed with a score of 66-28, and as eight-time champions, they are set to defend their title against either Iran or Chinese Taipei on Saturday.
The match began with India establishing a strong lead of 7-1 within the first five minutes. Thailand's Theeradat Chaisit made a notable impact with a raid that earned three points, helping his team reduce the gap to 14-23.
Despite Theeradat's efforts, India maintained a commanding lead of 37-18 at halftime. With just 11 minutes left in the game, India crossed the 50-point threshold, leading 50-23.
In the closing minutes, India continued to dominate, limiting Thailand's opportunities. India recorded a total of 43 outs compared to Thailand's 20.
Additionally, India achieved eight all-out points, while Thailand managed only two, and India secured 15 bonus points against Thailand's five.
Women's Team Advances to Final
In women's kabaddi, the defending champions India also advanced to the finals by defeating Nepal 48-24 in their semifinal match on Friday.
India started the match strong, leading 9-5 within the first five minutes, scoring through effective raids while Nepal attempted to pressure India's defense.
Nepal's Ganga Ghimire made a remarkable raid, earning four points despite being held back, which narrowed India's lead to 21-15 with four minutes left in the first half.
However, India tightened their control and extended their lead to 31-17 by halftime, thanks to strong performances from Sanju Devi and Sonali.
The Indian team maintained their dominance in the second half, ultimately winning 48-24 and securing their spot in the final.
India will face either Chinese Taipei or Iran in the final, aiming to defend their title and add another gold medal to their collection in Aichi-Nagoya.
