Victory for Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team
Antwerp, June 11: The Indian junior women's hockey team has maintained its impressive form during their European tour, securing a notable victory against Belgium.
In a closely contested match at the Hockey Center of Excellence, Wilrijkse Plein in Antwerp, India narrowly defeated Belgium with a score of 2-1. The goals for India were scored by Lalthantluangi in the 35th minute and Geeta Yadav in the 50th minute.
The first half ended without any goals as both teams struggled to find the net. However, Lalthantluangi broke the deadlock in the 35th minute by converting a penalty stroke.
Belgium equalized in the last quarter with a field goal from Van Hellemont in the 48th minute. Yet, just two minutes later, Geeta Yadav responded with a field goal, securing the win for India.
In the final ten minutes, India showcased solid defense to repel Belgium's attempts, ensuring their victory.
Following a successful stint at the Four Nations Tournament in Rosario, Argentina, the Indian team has embarked on a five-match tour in Europe, starting with this impressive win against Belgium.
Previously, India had won their opening match against Belgium 3-2 at the same venue.
With two consecutive victories under their belt, the Indian junior women are set to face Belgium for the third and final time on June 12.
During their time in Argentina, the Indian team performed admirably against tough opponents, achieving a 2-1 win and a 2-2 draw (with a 2-3 loss in shootouts) against Chile, a 1-1 draw (winning 2-0 in shootouts) and a 2-4 loss against Argentina, and two wins against Uruguay — 3-2 and 2-2 (winning 3-1 in shootouts).
These matches are crucial for India's preparation for the upcoming FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2025, which is set to take place in Santiago, Chile, in December 2025.
