IGU Honors Asian Games Medal Winners
The Indian Golf Union (IGU), recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, has announced cash prizes to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Indian golfers at the 2026 Asian Games. Pranavi Urs, who made history as India's first female individual gold medalist in golf at the Aichi-Nagoya games, will receive ₹10 lakh. Additionally, each member of the Indian women's golf team, including Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, who secured a silver medal, will be awarded ₹3 lakh, as stated in an IGU announcement. These cash awards were approved by the IGU Governing Council.
The IGU extended its congratulations to Pranavi for her exceptional accomplishment, acknowledging her dedication and skill in the sport. "We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Pranavi for her outstanding gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. This victory is a significant achievement and showcases her talent, hard work, and commitment to golf. We are immensely proud of her and wish her continued success in the future," said IGU President Brijinder Singh.
India's Golfing Achievements at the Asian Games
Pranavi Urs is the third Indian golfer to win an individual gold medal at the Asian Games, following in the footsteps of 'Bunny' Lakshman Singh (1982 Delhi) and Shiv Kapur (2002 Busan). Aditi Ashok previously earned a silver medal in the women's individual category at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
In terms of team events, this marks India's fourth medal in golf at the Asian Games. The team of 'Bunny' Lakshman Singh, Rajiv Mohta, Rishi Narain, and Amit Luthra won gold in the 1982 Delhi edition. This was followed by a silver medal at the 2006 Doha Asian Games, where Anirban Lahiri, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Chiragh Kumar, and Joseph Chakola represented India. The Indian team also secured back-to-back silver medals in the 2010 Guangzhou edition with Rashid Khan, Abhijeet Chadha, Rahul Bajaj, and Abhinav Lohan.
Pranavi Urs Makes History
On Saturday, Pranavi made history at the 2026 Asian Games by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in golf at this prestigious event, while also contributing to India's silver medal in the women's team competition. The 23-year-old from Mysuru finished the final round with a total score of 15-under 265, narrowly defeating China's Yin Ruoning and Singapore's Shannon Tan by a single stroke.
Entering the final round with a three-shot lead, Pranavi faced a challenge after a triple bogey on the third hole. However, she quickly regained her composure with three birdies, maintaining her position for the gold. As the pressure mounted in the final two holes, Pranavi made crucial par putts, finishing the 18th hole with another par to secure her lead at 15-under. Both Yin and Tan finished at 14-under, placing Pranavi at the top of the leaderboard.
This gold medal is a historic achievement for India, marking the first women's individual golf gold at the Asian Games and the first golf gold since Shiv Kapur's victory in 2002.
Team Silver and Overall Success
Pranavi's stellar performance was instrumental in India's silver medal win in the women's team event alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar. The Indian team finished with a score of 14-under 546, with the best two scores from the three golfers contributing to the final total. China claimed the gold medal with a score of 22-under 538. Aditi recorded a score of 67 in the final round, while Diksha scored 77, helping India secure the silver medal behind China.
Pranavi's achievement added to India's impressive performance on the penultimate day of the Asian Games. Earlier, 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod won gold in the women's individual recurve archery event after a shoot-off victory against South Korea's Oh Yejin.
