International Outreach After Air India Tragedy

On Friday, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar announced that he has been in touch with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, as well as his counterparts from Canada and Portugal, regarding the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.


The aircraft, which met with an accident on Thursday, was carrying 169 Indian nationals, along with 53 British, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese citizens. Air India has confirmed that a total of 241 individuals were on board, with one survivor currently receiving medical treatment.


In a post on 'X', Jaishankar stated, “I am in contact with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Portugal's Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel, and Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand concerning the Ahmedabad plane crash. I expressed my heartfelt condolences during this tragic time and assured them of our full cooperation.”


Later, Lammy shared Jaishankar's post, commenting, “The devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad has affected families in both the UK and India. I spoke with Dr. S. Jaishankar to convey my deepest sympathies. The UK stands ready to provide all forms of assistance to India during this challenging period.”
