Indian Clubs Kick Off RFDL Tour in Japan

The Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) exposure tour to Japan commenced with Indian football clubs Punjab FC and Bengaluru FC achieving victories in Fukuoka on Tuesday, while FC Goa faced a setback in their first match.


Punjab FC's Commanding Win Over Avispa Fukuoka

Punjab FC showcased their prowess with a resounding 5-0 victory against Avispa Fukuoka. The team launched an aggressive attack right from the start, with Singamayum Shami scoring two goals early on (3', 28'). Omang Dodum added another goal just before halftime (42'), giving Punjab a comfortable 3-0 lead. Ngarin Shaiza (55') and Vishal Yadav (90+2') sealed the win with additional goals.


After the match, Shami expressed his gratitude for his performance, stating, "The team is playing well. I scored. God gave me two goals. The first half was too hot." Reflecting on his past achievements, he mentioned, "Winning the U19 SAFF title was a proud moment for India and me."


Shami, who hails from a small village in Manipur, idolizes Cristiano Ronaldo and emphasized the importance of hard work in achieving dreams. He remarked, "If you believe and work hard, everything is possible."


Nitin Pant, General Manager of Punjab FC, praised the RFDL for its role in developing young football talent in India, stating, "This tour will help them grow as players and experience international football." He also highlighted the club's grassroots initiatives aimed at expanding youth participation in the sport.


Bengaluru FC Triumphs in a Thrilling Encounter

Bengaluru FC displayed remarkable determination in their 3-2 win against Giravanz Kitakyushu. After falling behind to a goal from Ryunosuke Imai in the 40th minute, Bengaluru fought back in the second half. Rakshit Rakshit Priya Anil equalized in the 61st minute, followed by a fortunate own goal from the Japanese side that gave Bengaluru the lead in the 69th minute. Despite a late goal from Md Arbash in the 90th minute, Bengaluru held on for the win.


Post-match, Bengaluru FC's youth head coach Renedy Singh acknowledged the challenge posed by their Japanese opponents, noting their technical skills. He stated, "It was a tough match, and we had to adapt our tactics as the game progressed."


Renedy also mentioned that his team hit the goalpost twice and emphasized the need for improvement in future matches. He expressed confidence that with more experience, the players would continue to develop.


Regarding acclimatization, Renedy noted that the team struggled initially but improved in the second half. He remarked, "We have to adapt and work hard to get better. I believe we will be more organized in the upcoming games."
