Indian Doubles Team Reaches BWF World Championships Quarterfinals
Victory in a Thrilling Match
The Indian men's doubles team, consisting of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, has successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships. They achieved this after a challenging match against the Malaysian duo of Junaidi Arif and Yap Roy King, winning with scores of 21-23, 21-19, and 21-17.
Calmness and Strategy Lead to Success
In a post-match interview, Chirag highlighted their anticipation of the opponents' strategy, which relied on a flatter style of play due to the slower shuttlecocks. He stated, "We expected them to adopt a flatter game because the shuttles are quite slow, and they would want to keep the game low."
Chirag emphasized that maintaining composure was crucial, saying, "We knew what to expect and focused on keeping our shots low. Ultimately, it worked in our favor, and we are thrilled with the victory."
Handling Momentum Changes
Discussing the match dynamics against Malaysian and Indonesian players, the duo noted that such games often experience rapid shifts in momentum, requiring patience. They remarked, "Matches against Malaysian or Indonesian players can be unpredictable, with quick swings in points. It's a game without rhythm."
They explained that their opponents often challenge them in the drive game, complicating their strategy execution. "We had a game plan to block and counterattack, but it was challenging to implement. However, we remained committed to our strategy," they added.
Belief in a Turnaround
The Indian pair expressed confidence that a brief period of strong play could alter the match's outcome, which helped them stay composed during critical moments. "We believed that if we could score four points in a minute, we could turn the match around. We managed to keep our nerves and are delighted to progress further," they concluded.
Upcoming Quarterfinal Against Chinese Opponents
This victory sets the stage for a quarterfinal match against China's Liang and Wang, with whom the Indian pair has had closely contested matches in the past.
"Our encounters with them have always been tightly contested. Sometimes they win, sometimes we do. We are looking forward to a challenging match tomorrow," Chirag and Satwik stated.
