India's Performance in T20 World Cup 2026

In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, India has shown a commendable performance overall, winning six out of their seven matches. Their only setback was a 76-run defeat against South Africa in the Super 8s stage. However, the team is yet to achieve a flawless display where batting, bowling, and fielding all align perfectly.

Key Victory Against West Indies

After the loss to South Africa, the Suryakumar Yadav-led team faced a crucial match against the West Indies, which they needed to win. Thanks to a stellar performance by Sanju Samson, who scored an unbeaten 97 runs, India secured a five-wicket victory, ensuring their place in the semifinals.

In this match, India won the toss and opted to field first. The West Indies started strong with an opening partnership of 68 runs between Roston Chase (40 runs off 25 balls) and captain Shai Hope (32 runs off 33 balls). However, they later faltered to 119/4 in 14.1 overs, despite a quick 27 runs from Shimron Hetmyer.

A late surge from Jason Holder (37* off 22 balls) and Powell (34* off 19 balls) helped the West Indies finish at 195/4 in their 20 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, taking 2 wickets for 36 runs in four overs, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Hardik Pandya both conceded 40 runs in their four overs.

During the chase, India stumbled early, finding themselves at 41/2. However, a crucial 58-run partnership between Samson and Suryakumar Yadav (18 runs) steadied the innings. Samson continued to build partnerships with Tilak Varma (27 runs off 15 balls), Hardik Pandya (17 runs), and Shivam Dube (8*), leading India to a five-wicket victory.
