Muscat, June 15: Prior to their return to India, the 20 Indian crew members of the MT Jalveer expressed heartfelt thanks to the Indian government, the Indian Embassy in Muscat, and the Omani authorities for their swift action and effective rescue efforts.

The crew was safely brought ashore with the cooperation of Omani officials following an incident involving their vessel on June 11.

Captain Subodh Kumar, the Master of MT Jalveer, stated, "All crew members are safe. The Embassy took excellent care of us. We were accommodated in a hotel from June 11 to June 14. The Indian Embassy played a crucial role in our safe evacuation. Our company also provided support, including operations and technical assistance. We are grateful to the company, the Indian Embassy, and the Omani authorities for their help."

Prashant Pise, India's Ambassador to Oman, met with the crew members before their departure back to India.

Nazim, the second officer of MT Jalveer, shared, "Fortunately, all 20 crew members managed to exit the cabin safely. Thanks to the timely intervention of the Indian Embassy, our company, and other personnel, we were rescued without delay and reached the port safely. We are now heading back to India to reunite with our families. We appreciate everyone's assistance during this time."

The Indian Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to providing support and assistance to Indian nationals in distress, ensuring their welfare and safe return home.

In a statement on X, the Indian Embassy in Oman noted, "The Ambassador of India to Oman interacted with the 20 Indian crew members of MT Jalveer in Muscat before their repatriation to India, wishing them a safe journey. The crew was evacuated ashore with the help of Omani authorities following the incident on June 11, 2026. The Embassy remains dedicated to offering prompt assistance and support to Indian nationals in distress and ensuring their safe return home."

The Indian nationals were successfully evacuated from MT Jalveer to Shinas Port with the assistance of the Royal Navy of Oman.

During an Inter-Ministerial briefing on June 11 regarding recent developments in West Asia, Mukesh Mangal, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, confirmed that all 20 Indian seafarers aboard MT Jalveer were safe after the vessel was attacked near Shinas port in Oman.

Mangal expressed India's concern over ongoing disruptions to commercial shipping and emphasized the necessity for secure navigation through international waters in accordance with international law.

He stated, "The commercial vessel MT Jalveer, registered under the flag of Guinea-Bissau, was attacked off Shinas port in Oman. All 20 Indian crew members are reportedly safe. Our mission in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities for their safe evacuation."

He added, "The ongoing incidents affecting commercial shipping in the region are alarming. We stress the importance of ensuring the safety of seafarers and maintaining free navigation and commerce through international waterways in line with international law."

During the same briefing, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), emphasized that New Delhi prioritizes the safety of Indian seafarers and expressed concern over the repeated attacks on shipping in West Asia. He linked these incidents to the ongoing regional conflicts and reiterated India's call for dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace and stability as soon as possible.
