Indian Commercial Vessel Attacked Near Yemen: All Crew Rescued

New Delhi, August 4 - A commercial ship flying the Indian flag was attacked near the coast of Yemen on Tuesday, as reported by the Ministry of External Affairs. The ministry confirmed that there were 13 Indian nationals on board, all of whom have been safely rescued.

India's Response

The Indian government condemned the attack, emphasizing that targeting commercial vessels in this region must cease. The Ministry stated, “We strongly denounce the assault on the Indian-flagged commercial vessel ‘MSV Faiz Noor Oliya,’ which sank in the Red Sea near Yemen's coast on August 4.”

Coordination with Yemeni Authorities

The ministry further noted, “All 13 Indian citizens have been rescued. Our embassy in Riyadh is closely monitoring the situation and is actively coordinating with Yemeni authorities to ensure the safety of the crew.”

Concerns Over Maritime Security

The Ministry of External Affairs expressed gratitude to Yemeni officials for their assistance in rescuing the Indian nationals. They highlighted that the ongoing attacks on commercial vessels in the region are extremely concerning. The ministry added, “Attacks on commercial ships in this area must stop, and the free and unhindered passage of international shipping and trade through the region's waterways should be restored as soon as possible in accordance with international law.”
