Indian Coast Guard Strengthens National Security with New Vessel Launch
Rajnath Singh Highlights Coast Guard's Role in National Security
On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has made the nation's coastline impervious to threats. He asserted that the Coast Guard has instilled such fear in adversaries that anyone daring to approach the borders will face consequences. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the ICG's first pollution control vessel, 'Samudra Pratap', Singh remarked that the Coast Guard has created a formidable deterrent against any attempts to breach national boundaries.
A Shared Maritime Vision
Singh noted that the launch of 'Samudra Pratap' aligns with India's broader maritime vision, which recognizes that oceanic resources belong to humanity as a whole, rather than being the exclusive property of any single nation. He stated that when heritage is shared, the responsibility for its protection must also be collective. This principle is what positions India as a strong advocate for peace, stability, and environmental responsibility on the global stage.
India as a Responsible Maritime Power
Describing India as a responsible maritime power, Singh pointed out that during a time of global maritime uncertainty, India has consistently demonstrated its commitment not only to safeguarding its own interests but also to ensuring peace and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific region. He emphasized that this inclusive approach is what defines India as a responsible maritime force. The Defence Minister called for the establishment of standards in maritime governance, strengthening capacity-building initiatives, and advancing collaborative frameworks. He urged the Indian Coast Guard to elevate its operational principles, institutional practices, and technological innovations to globally recognized standards.
Setting New Standards
He further stated, "In recent years, the Indian Coast Guard has established itself as a benchmark for regional standards. Now is the time to elevate this role to new heights and decisively step towards global leadership." The Defence Minister commissioned the first vessel, Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) 'Samudra Pratap', from a series of pollution control vessels being constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited. Goa's Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was also present at the event.
