In a post on X, Singh praised Gulveer Singh for securing a silver medal in the men's 10,000m race, marking a historic moment as he became the first Indian to achieve this feat at the Commonwealth Games. "Historic and exemplary! Congratulations to Naib Subedar Gulveer Singh on winning Silver Medal in the Men's 10000 M at the #CommonwealthGames2026. This success is even more special as he becomes the first Indian ever to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the event," Singh expressed.
The Defence Minister emphasized that Gulveer's success stemmed from his exceptional talent, relentless hard work, and determination, stating, "This is the result of his unparalleled talent, hard work, and unwavering determination. Harjinder Kaur's Silver Medal Achievement
Singh also recognized Harjinder Kaur for her silver medal in the women's 69kg weightlifting category. "Yet another medal for India in Weightlifting! India had a successful day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, with Gulveer Singh making history by winning the first-ever medal in the men's 10,000m event. Additionally, Harjinder Kaur secured silver in weightlifting, while three Indian boxers advanced to the semifinals, ensuring at least three more medals for the nation.
Gulveer Singh's Historic 10,000m Silver
Gulveer Singh emerged as the standout performer, achieving silver in the men's 10,000m with a time of 27:49.78. He maintained his position with the leading group throughout the race and executed a powerful sprint in the final lap, finishing just behind Australia's Ky Robinson. This silver medal marked India's first podium finish in the men's 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games.
Harjinder Kaur's Silver Upgrade
Harjinder Kaur kicked off Day 6 for India with a silver medal in the women's 69kg weightlifting event. The athlete from Punjab recorded a personal best total of 227kg, which included 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk, finishing second to Canada's Charlotte Simoneau. Harjinder also set a new Commonwealth Games snatch record twice during her performance, improving upon the bronze medal she earned at the Birmingham 2022 Games.
