Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his congratulations to Indian athletes Neeraj Chopra, Tejaswin Shankar, and Yash Vir Singh for their remarkable performances at the Commonwealth Games 2026, commending their skill, determination, and fighting spirit.
In a message on X, Singh celebrated Neeraj Chopra's silver medal in the men's javelin throw final, highlighting his "fantastic display of skill and determination" that led to this achievement. He expressed pride in Chopra's performance, stating, "Congratulations to @Neeraj_chopra1 on securing the Silver Medal in the Men's Javelin Throw Final at the Commonwealth Games 2026. His outstanding performance has brought immense pride to the nation. My best wishes for the endeavours ahead."
Singh also recognized Tejaswin Shankar for clinching bronze in the men's decathlon, despite facing an injury. He noted this accomplishment as historic, marking Shankar as the first Indian athlete to earn a Commonwealth Games medal in this event. "Despite battling an injury, Tejaswin Shankar displayed remarkable grit and determination to secure the Bronze Medal in the Men's Decathlon event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. This is a historic achievement, as he has become the first Indian athlete ever to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the decathlon. Wishing him a speedy recovery and many more milestones as he continues to bring glory to the nation," Singh remarked.
Additionally, Rajnath Singh congratulated Yash Vir Singh for his bronze medal in the men's javelin throw, praising his performance and focus. "Congrats to Yash Vir Singh for his amazing performance and winning the Bronze in the Men's Javelin event. His outstanding skills and focus have brought immense pride to our nation. I wish him the very best for his endeavours ahead," he stated.

India had a remarkable day at the Commonwealth Games 2026, highlighted by Neeraj Chopra's silver and Yash Vir Singh's bronze in men's javelin throw, alongside Tejaswin Shankar's bronze in the decathlon. The country's judokas contributed two gold medals through Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh, with Yamini Maurya adding a silver.
A significant highlight was in boxing, where all 10 Indian semifinalists advanced to their respective gold medal matches, ensuring at least 10 more silver medals for the nation.
