The LMGs, which are 7.62 mm-calibre, were delivered ahead of schedule, showcasing the efficiency of the manufacturing process. With a total order of around 40,000 units, the company aims to complete the delivery within three years. This development highlights the government's commitment to supporting the defence industry.

Delivery of Prahar Light Machine Guns to Indian Army


Gwalior, Mar 28: The Indian Army's capabilities have received a significant enhancement with the delivery of the initial batch of 2,000 Prahar light machine guns (LMGs) on Saturday. These weapons are part of the 'Make in India' initiative.


Manufactured by Adani Defence and Aerospace at their Small Arms Complex near Gwalior, the 7.62 mm-calibre LMGs were officially handed over during a ceremony attended by A Anbarasu, Director General of Acquisition at the Ministry of Defence, and Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence and Aerospace, along with other senior officials.


Following the ceremony, Anbarasu flagged off trucks carrying the first batch of LMGs destined for the Army.


Rajvanshi, speaking to the media after the event, noted, "This journey began six years ago with our bid submission, and we are proud to deliver 11 months ahead of the planned schedule."


"Initially, the timeline provided by the customer was over seven years, but I assure you that we will complete the entire order within the next three years," he added.


According to a company representative, the total order for the LMGs is approximately 40,000 units.


Anbarasu commended the company for its timely delivery, emphasizing the importance of efficiency in fulfilling contracts.
