Delivery of 'Prahaar' Light Machine Guns to Indian Army

On Saturday, a defense company in India delivered the first batch of 2,000 'Prahaar' light machine guns (LMGs) to the Indian Army, as part of the 'Make in India' initiative. This LMG, with a caliber of 7.62 mm, has been manufactured by 'Adani Defense and Aerospace' at its facility located on the outskirts of Gwalior.

A ceremony was held at the facility to mark the handover of the LMGs to the army, attended by A. Ambarasu, the Director General (Acquisition) of the Ministry of Defence, along with Ashish Rajvanshi, the CEO of 'Adani Defense and Aerospace', and other senior officials from the private firm.

Following the ceremony, Ambarasu flagged off the trucks carrying the first batch of LMGs for the army. Rajvanshi later informed reporters, “The journey we are starting today took us six years to complete—from the bidding process to now—and we have delivered it 11 months ahead of schedule.”

He further stated, “The original timeline given by the customer was over seven years, but I assure you that the entire order will be fulfilled within the next three years.” A company spokesperson mentioned that the total order for the LMGs amounts to approximately 40,000 weapons. Ambarasu praised the company for delivering the first batch several months ahead of the agreed timeline, emphasizing that the government stands shoulder to shoulder with partners in the defense industry.
