Espionage Arrest at Indian Air Force Station

A civilian worker at an Indian Air Force base in Assam was detained on Sunday on suspicions of espionage for Pakistan's intelligence agency, according to reports from local police.

Sumit Kumar, aged 36, who serves as a multi-tasking staff member at the Chabua Air Force Station in Dibrugarh, is accused of collecting sensitive information about the facility and transmitting it to Pakistani handlers via social media.

The allegations suggest that Kumar gathered critical details regarding Air Force assets, including the locations of fighter jets, missile systems, and personnel data, which he shared through various social media channels.

Prafulla Kumar, the additional director general of police (intelligence), confirmed that the arrest was the result of a coordinated effort between Rajasthan Intelligence and Air Force Intelligence.

The investigation commenced following the apprehension of another suspect in Jaisalmer back in January, which ultimately led to identifying Sumit Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, as a potential spy.

During questioning, Kumar revealed that he had been in contact with Pakistani intelligence agents since 2023 and was allegedly providing confidential information in return for financial compensation, as reported by officials.

A case has been filed against him under the Official Secrets Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
