Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced an extension to the India Women's cricket team's tour of South Africa later this year, now including a three-match T20I series. The updated schedule will feature matches across all three international formats.

Initially planned to include a warm-up match, three ODIs, and a single Test from December 6 to 23, the tour has been revised to extend until December 30, with the Test match taking place first, followed by the ODI and T20I series. This adjustment aims to provide both teams with essential match experience ahead of the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy, set to occur in Sri Lanka in February.

Updated Schedule and Locations

The one-off Test is scheduled to take place in Gqeberha from December 9 to 12, ensuring it does not coincide with the men's home Test series against England. The three ODIs, which are crucial for qualification for the 2029 Women's ODI World Cup, will be held in Paarl, Cape Town, and Bloemfontein. The newly added T20I matches will occur in Benoni and Potchefstroom on December 26, 29, and 30, coinciding with the festive season.

CSA's Statement on the Tour

"We are thrilled to announce the revised schedule for India's tour of South Africa, which now includes the T20 International series during the festive season. This ensures our Proteas Women are optimally prepared for the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka early next year," stated Pholetsi Moseki, the chief executive of Cricket South Africa.

"India is one of the top teams in world cricket, and competing against them in all three formats will provide invaluable experience as we gear up for another major ICC event," he added.

Recent Matches Between the Teams

This extended tour follows India's visit to South Africa for a five-match T20I series in March-April, where the home team emerged victorious with a 4-1 win. Additionally, the two teams faced off during the Women's T20 World Cup in England, where South Africa's victory significantly impacted India's chances of advancing to the semi-finals.

South Africa's Busy Home Season

The revised tour schedule is part of a hectic home season for South Africa, which will also host men's teams from Australia, Bangladesh, and England, along with the women's teams from India and Australia across various formats.
