Jemimah Rodrigues Excluded from Asia Cup

The Indian women's cricket team will be without their key player, Jemimah Rodrigues, who has been sidelined due to an injury, as confirmed by head coach Amol Muzumdar. Despite this setback, Muzumdar emphasized the team's determination to excel in the upcoming Asia Cup and the Asian Games in Japan starting in September.

As seven-time champions of the Women's Asia Cup, India is eager to maintain their strong performance in the tournament. Their campaign kicks off against Thailand on Sunday, followed by participation in the Asian Games.

'This Group is Unique'

Reflecting on the team's recent successes, including a Test victory at Lord's in July and last year's ICC Women's Cricket World Cup win, coach Muzumdar expressed confidence in the squad's ambition. "This group is special. We have performed well in ODIs and Tests, winning four out of our last five matches," he stated ahead of the Asia Cup opener.

He added, "The players are eager for success and are focused on winning every tournament. Their hunger for victory will be evident in the upcoming matches."

Group A Composition

India is placed in Group A of the Asia Cup alongside Thailand, Hong Kong, China, and Pakistan. The absence of Jemimah Rodrigues, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, is a significant loss for the team. Muzumdar provided an update on her rehabilitation, stating, "Her recovery is crucial for us, and she is currently undergoing treatment at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru."

He acknowledged her importance to the team, saying, "While we will miss her, other players stepping in are capable of performing well."
