India's Dominant Performance in Quarter-Final

On Friday, the Indian women's cricket team achieved a convincing eight-wicket victory against Japan in the quarter-finals of the women's cricket event at the Asian Games, ensuring their place in the semi-finals with a strong performance.

India's Bowling Excellence Limits Japan's Score

Choosing to bowl first, India showcased a disciplined bowling effort, restricting Japan to a mere 57 runs in 19.5 overs. Ayaka Kato-Stafford was the top scorer for Japan, managing 25 runs off 47 balls, while the rest of the batting order struggled against India's bowling attack.

Japan faced regular setbacks, losing wickets consistently and ultimately being bowled out for a low total. Sree Charani emerged as the star bowler for India, taking four wickets, while Shafali Verma contributed with two. Shreyanka Patil and Deepti Sharma also added to the tally with one wicket each.

Shafali Verma's Explosive Batting Leads to Victory

In pursuit of 58 runs, India made quick work of the target, scoring 59 runs for the loss of two wickets in just five overs. Shafali Verma was the highlight of the innings, scoring an impressive 40 runs off only 15 balls, which included four boundaries, propelling India to a swift victory.

Although India lost Gunalan Kamalini without scoring and Bharti Fulmali for six runs, Japan failed to capitalize on these early breakthroughs. Richa Ghosh supported Verma with an unbeaten 12 runs off six balls, bringing India closer to the win.

With just one run needed for victory, Verma sealed the match in style by hitting Shimako Kato for a six over long-on. India completed the quarter-final with 90 balls remaining, advancing to the semi-finals of the women's cricket tournament.

The semi-final matchups are now confirmed, with Pakistan set to face Sri Lanka and India going up against Bangladesh. Both semi-finals are scheduled for Sunday.
