India Women Secure Series Victory Over Zimbabwe with Dominant Performance
India Clinches Series Against Zimbabwe
Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], October 25: A remarkable performance by Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma, along with a stellar four-wicket haul from Vaishnavi Sharma, led India Women to a convincing 121-run win against Zimbabwe in the second ODI at the BCA Stadium on Sunday. This victory granted India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, India set a formidable target of 328/6, bouncing back from an early collapse thanks to significant contributions from Harmanpreet, Deepti, and Pratika Rawal. In response, Zimbabwe was bowled out for 207 in 48.5 overs, despite a valiant effort from their top order.
Early Struggles and Recovery
India faced an early challenge when captain Smriti Mandhana was dismissed for a two-ball duck in the first over, followed by Shafali Verma, who managed only eight runs off eight balls. With the score at 19/2, Pratika Rawal joined Harmanpreet at the crease, stabilizing the innings. The duo formed a crucial 124-run partnership for the third wicket, rescuing India from a precarious position and setting the stage for a robust total. Rawal scored a fluent 61 off 67 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes, before being dismissed in the 23rd over. Tejal Hasabnis also fell cheaply for three, leaving India at 148/4.
Record-Breaking Batting Performance
Harmanpreet continued to anchor the innings with a blend of composure and aggression. The former captain scored 126 runs off 121 balls, including 15 boundaries, marking her eighth ODI century and placing her second on India's all-time list of women's ODI century-makers. She found a reliable partner in Deepti Sharma, and together they launched an assault on Zimbabwe's bowlers. Their 153-run partnership for the fifth wicket was pivotal, propelling India towards the 300-run mark. Harmanpreet's innings concluded at 126 when Michelle Mavunga induced a mistimed shot, caught by substitute fielder Kudzai Chigora at long-off. Deepti maintained the momentum, finishing with an unbeaten 106 off 86 balls, featuring 15 fours. She celebrated her second ODI century with a boundary in the final over, ensuring India concluded at 328/6. Richa Ghosh added seven runs, while Sayali Satghare remained not out on three.
Zimbabwe's Chase and Indian Bowling Domination
In their chase for 329, Zimbabwe started steadily, with Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano providing resistance at the top. Mupachikwa scored 49 off 70 balls, hitting nine boundaries, while Mugeri-Tiripano contributed 46 runs off 57 deliveries, including seven fours. The pair established a promising foundation for Zimbabwe, but India gradually seized control with disciplined bowling. Beloved Biza added 34 runs off 49 balls, while captain Josephine Nkomo scored 20 off 36 deliveries. Nyasha Gwanzura also chipped in with 20 runs off 18 balls, but Zimbabwe struggled to keep up with the required run rate as wickets fell consistently.
Vaishnavi Sharma led the Indian bowling attack with impressive figures of 4/39 from 10 overs, while Deepti Sharma took three wickets for 32 runs. Sayali Satghare, Shree Charani, and Jintimani Kalita each claimed one wicket as Zimbabwe was dismissed for 207 in 48.5 overs. India now aims to complete a series sweep in the third and final ODI after securing the series with a match to spare.
