India U19 Triumphs Over South Africa U19 in Rain-Shortened Opener
Harvansh Pangalia's Stellar Performance
Harvansh Pangalia delivered an outstanding performance with a remarkable 93 runs, guiding India U19 to a 25-run victory against South Africa U19 using the DLS method during the rain-affected first match of the series in Benoni on Saturday. His impressive innings, along with R.S. Ambrish's contribution of 65 runs, enabled India to set a formidable target of 300 runs in their allotted 50 overs.
Rain Disrupts South Africa's Chase
In pursuit of 301 runs, South Africa found themselves at 148 for 4 after 27.4 overs when rain and lightning halted the match. Unfortunately, play could not resume, leading to India being declared the winners under the DLS method. Jorich Van Schalkwyk, the opener for the Proteas, managed to score 60 runs not out before the rain interrupted the game.
Middle-Order Resilience Shines
During the first innings, the partnership between Ambrish and Pangalia was pivotal, as they combined for a significant 140-run stand for the fifth wicket, which revitalized India's U19 innings and helped them reach a total of 300 runs. Despite Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Aaron George's struggles, the duo of Ambrish and Pangalia successfully lifted India from a precarious position of 67 for 4, showcasing the middle order's resilience.
Suryavanshi Takes the Helm
Vaibhav Suryavanshi stepped up as the captain for India U19 in this series against South Africa U19, filling in for the injured Ayush Mhatre and vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra, who are currently recovering from their injuries.
