India U-19 Kicks Off Asia Cup with Convincing Win

The India Under-19 cricket team commenced their journey in the ACC Men's U-19 Asia Cup 2026 with a resounding 10-wicket victory against Nepal Under-19 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground on Friday. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, India successfully limited Nepal to a total of 128 runs in 42.3 overs, then chased down the target in a mere 19.1 overs without losing a wicket.

Aaryavir Sehwag Shines in Run Chase

Aaryavir Sehwag, the son of former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, was instrumental in the run chase, scoring an unbeaten 70 runs off 52 balls. Captain Lakshya Rajesh Raichandani also contributed significantly, remaining not out with 53 runs from 63 deliveries. The duo formed a solid opening partnership, ensuring a comfortable win for India. Aaryavir showcased his aggressive batting style, frequently finding the boundary, while Raichandani provided steady support.

Bowling Excellence Paves the Way for Victory

India's bowlers capitalized on the early conditions to put Nepal under pressure right from the start. Ishan Sood emerged as the standout bowler, claiming three wickets for just 18 runs in his 10 overs, including four maiden overs. His disciplined bowling was crucial in dismantling the Nepal batting order early on.

Nepal's Struggles Against India's Bowling Attack

Nepal faced an early collapse, losing key players Prashiddha Jaishi (1), Suryanshu Koirala (5), and Nischal Chhetri (0) quickly. Ishan Sood was responsible for all three dismissals, leaving Nepal in a precarious position at 27 for three. Although Niraj Kumar Yadav (20) and Darsh Sonar tried to stabilize the innings, India's bowlers maintained relentless pressure with disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. Sonar was the top scorer for Nepal, managing 43 runs off 93 balls, while wicketkeeper Aashish Luhar added 29 runs off 45 balls. However, Nepal struggled to form any significant partnerships to recover from their early losses.

Consistent Wickets Seal Nepal's Fate

India's bowlers continued to take wickets at regular intervals, ultimately dismissing Nepal for 128 runs in 42.3 overs. Besides Ishan, Arjun Rajput and Yashveer Goud each took two wickets, while Manal Chauhan and Kavya Patel contributed with one wicket each. Ishan Sood was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.

Captain's Insights on the Victory

Post-match, India U-19 captain Lakshya Rajesh Raichandani expressed satisfaction with the team's strategy to exploit early movement and maintain pressure by bowling accurately. He remarked, "Winning the toss was advantageous. We effectively utilized the early movement and executed our plans well. The bowlers focused on hitting good lengths and maintaining pressure.
