The thrill of an India-Pakistan cricket match was amplified for Richa Ghosh's family as the Indian women's team secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Women's T20 Asia Cup. Richa's father, Manabendra Ghosh, expressed immense pride in his daughter's role in the team's success.
Father's Sentiments
"Every time we face Pakistan, our excitement peaks; we feel a strong urge to win. We have faith in our team's capabilities and expect them to triumph. However, we watch closely to see how they achieve victory. For instance, today they bowled the opposition out for a remarkably low score—an impressive display," Manabendra shared after the match. He added, "Having a player from our hometown on the team fills us with pride; she consistently makes us proud."
India's Dominant Performance
Although Richa did not bat as India chased down a modest target of 56 runs in just 8.4 overs, she made her mark behind the stumps, contributing to two dismissals. She stumped Tuba Hassan off Deepti Sharma's bowling and caught Nashra Sandhu off Prema Rawat's delivery.
Bowling Masterclass
India showcased a stellar bowling performance, dismissing Pakistan for a mere 55 runs in 18.1 overs at the Dubai International Stadium. Shree Charani and Prema Rawat were pivotal in Pakistan's downfall, each taking three wickets. Charani's figures were 3/7, while Prema's were 3/9. Deepti Sharma added two wickets, and Shafali Verma claimed one.
Initially, Pakistan seemed to start well, with Muneeba Ali and Shawaal Zulfiqar scoring 27 runs together. However, Shafali broke the partnership by bowling Muneeba for 13, and Charani quickly shifted the momentum in India's favor.
Charani struck twice in the next over, dismissing Gull Feroza for a duck and trapping Zulfiqar LBW for 14. By the end of the powerplay, Pakistan was struggling at 29/3 and never managed to recover.
India's spinners continued to dismantle the Pakistan batting lineup, with Charani claiming her third wicket before Prema Rawat and Deepti Sharma added to the collapse. Pakistan found themselves at 35/6 after 9.1 overs and were ultimately bowled out for 55.
Chasing Down the Target
In the chase, Shafali Verma gave India a fiery start, hitting a six on the first ball. She was dismissed for 12 by Pakistan's captain Fatima Sana, who also took out Pratika Rawal for four in the same over. Sana then dismissed Smriti Mandhana for nine, leaving India at 29/3. Mandhana had scored a century in the previous match.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma then stabilized the innings, guiding India to victory without further losses. Harmanpreet remained not out at 18, while Deepti finished with 12 not out.
During her brief innings, Shafali also reached a milestone of 3,000 runs in Women's T20 Internationals, becoming the youngest player to achieve this at 22 years and 220 days.

This victory marked the completion of India's flawless group-stage campaign, with the defending champions winning all three of their matches against Thailand, Hong Kong, and Pakistan, accumulating six points.
