On Monday, India secured a 2-1 victory against Japan in the women's squash team event during the 2026 Asian Games. The match concluded with Tanvi Khanna clinching the win after Anahat Singh faced a tough five-game match against Satomi Watanabe. Joshana Chinappa initiated the competition with a strong performance, defeating Japan's Erisa Sano with scores of 11-1 and 11-8.
Anahat then took on Watanabe, who initially led the match by winning the first game 11-8. However, Anahat fought back, winning the next two games 11-8 and 11-7, putting her ahead 2-1. Watanabe managed to equalize by winning the fourth game 11-8 and ultimately took the match with an 11-9 win in the fifth game, leveling the tie at 1-1.
In the decisive match, Tanvi faced Akari Midorikawa and emerged victorious with scores of 12-10, 11-9, 4-11, and 12-10, ensuring India's overall win against Japan. This victory followed India's earlier triumph over China, where they also won 2-1.
Medals Confirmed in Shooting, Kurash, and Boxing
In other events, Indian shooter Esha Singh earned a silver medal in the women's 25m pistol individual final. Additionally, Pincky Balhara and Lovlina Borgohain secured medals in kurash and boxing, respectively, showcasing impressive performances at the Asian Games.
Esha finished the final with 38 points, tying with China's Xiao Jiaruixian, who took gold, while North Korea's Kim Hyon Suk won bronze with 34 points. In kurash, Pincky Balhara reached the women's -78kg semifinal but ultimately secured a bronze medal after losing to South Korea's Mo Sumin. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain advanced in the women's 75kg quarterfinal by defeating South Korea's Seong Suyeon.
