India to Host Key BRICS National Security Meeting: What to Expect?
Significance of the Upcoming BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting
New Delhi: India is set to host the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting on June 22-23, bringing together high-ranking security officials from member nations to discuss pressing global security issues and enhance collaboration on strategic matters.
As per a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the meeting will be led by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, with participation from National Security Advisers and heads of delegations from BRICS countries.
During this two-day event, attendees will share insights on the topic of 'Non-traditional security challenges facing the world today.' The discussions are anticipated to center around the swiftly evolving security environment and the increasing influence of emerging technologies on both global and national security.
The MEA emphasized that the National Security Advisers and Heads of Delegation will engage in dialogue regarding the theme of 'Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today.'
Participants will also delve into the changing dynamics of national security threats and the implications of new technologies, addressing concerns such as cybersecurity, digital vulnerabilities, and risks associated with artificial intelligence, along with other unconventional security challenges.
Moreover, the National Security Advisers will assess the results of the recent BRICS Joint Working Groups focused on Counter-Terrorism and the Security of Information and Communication Technologies. This review aims to enhance future collaboration among BRICS nations in tackling transnational threats and fortifying collective security frameworks.
This meeting is particularly important as India continues to lead discussions within BRICS on matters of global governance, security collaboration, and technological challenges. The group has broadened its focus to encompass strategic and security-related issues that impact its member states.
Additionally, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is expected to attend the meeting, marking his first visit to India since August 2025. Wang, who also holds the position of China’s National Security Adviser as the Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, will be in India on June 22-23 at the invitation of NSA Ajit Doval.
This visit is being closely monitored as India and China strive to maintain dialogue on bilateral and regional matters. Wang had previously missed the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting hosted by India last month due to a scheduling conflict with US President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing.
