New Delhi, June 20: India is set to host the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting on June 22-23, under its leadership. This gathering will convene high-ranking security officials from member nations to discuss pressing global security issues and enhance collaboration on strategic matters.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that National Security Adviser Shri Ajit Doval will chair the meeting, which will include participation from National Security Advisers and heads of delegations from BRICS countries.
During this two-day event, attendees will share insights on the theme “Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today.” The discussions are anticipated to address the rapidly evolving security environment and the influence of emerging technologies on both global and national security.
The MEA emphasized that the National Security Advisers and Heads of Delegation will engage in dialogue regarding the theme, focusing on the changing nature of national security challenges and the implications of new technologies on security threats. Topics such as cybersecurity, digital vulnerabilities, and risks associated with artificial intelligence will be highlighted as significant non-conventional security issues facing nations.
Moreover, the National Security Advisers will evaluate the results of the recently concluded BRICS Joint Working Groups on Counter-Terrorism and Security in Information and Communication Technologies. This review aims to enhance future cooperation among BRICS countries in tackling transnational threats and fortifying collective security frameworks.
This meeting is particularly important as India leads discussions within BRICS on matters of global governance, security collaboration, and technological challenges. The group has broadened its focus to encompass strategic and security-related issues that impact member states, beyond just economic concerns.
Additionally, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is expected to attend the meeting, marking his first visit to India since August 2025. Wang, who also holds the position of China’s National Security Adviser, will be in India on June 22-23 at the invitation of NSA Ajit Doval.
This visit is being closely monitored amid ongoing efforts by India and China to maintain dialogue on bilateral and regional matters. Notably, Wang had previously missed the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting hosted by India last month due to a scheduling conflict with US President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing.
