Overview of the BRICS Education Ministers Meeting

Bhubaneswar, August 6 - India is set to lead the BRICS Education Ministers meeting on Friday in Bhubaneswar. The event will be chaired by Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi, focusing on enhancing collaboration among member nations in the education sector. Joshi has arrived in Odisha for a two-day visit.

He will head the Indian delegation at this significant meeting, which will see participation from ministers, senior officials, and representatives from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Iran, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Officials have indicated that discussions will revolve around key priority areas such as Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), skill development, research and innovation, mutual recognition of academic qualifications, and educational leadership.

Prior to the ministerial meeting, the Ministry of Education organized the third BRICS Senior Officials Meeting in Bhubaneswar on August 5, as part of India's presidency of BRICS in 2026. According to an official statement, this meeting served as a platform for detailed discussions on the draft declaration for the BRICS Education Ministers, where officials reviewed the proposed draft, exchanged suggestions, and worked towards reaching an agreement on the document to be presented for ministerial approval.
