For the first time, India will host two significant continental athletics events: the Asian Relay Championships and the Asian Indoor Championships. Chandigarh is set to welcome the 2027 Asian Relay Championships, while Bhubaneswar will be the venue for the 2028 Asian Indoor Championships, as confirmed by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).


Details of the 2028 Asian Indoor Championships

According to Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the 2028 Asian Indoor Championships will enhance the sports culture in both the state and the nation. He noted that this event will serve as excellent preparation for the upcoming 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championships.


The championships are scheduled to take place at the Indoor Stadium in Bhubaneswar in January, as stated by the AFI president.


2027 Asian Relay Championships in Chandigarh

Chandigarh will host the 2027 Asian Relay Championships in May. The AFI president mentioned that the local administration is fully supportive of this continental event.


The championships will occur at the Sector 7 Sports Complex, with Chandigarh's home secretary, Mandeep Singh Brar, expressing enthusiasm about welcoming top athletes from across Asia for this prestigious competition.


Events at the Asian Relay Championships

The Asian Relay Championships will feature six events, including the Men's 4x100m and 4x400m relays, the Women's 4x100m and 4x400m relays, and mixed relays in both 4x100m and 4x400m categories.
