Government Blocks Accounts and Channels

New Delhi: On Sunday, the Indian government took decisive action by blocking the X accounts of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, and Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister and founder of PTI.

These accounts were withheld due to their dissemination of anti-India sentiments and harmful content amid escalating tensions.

Previously, India had also restricted access to the official X account of the Government of Pakistan and the account of Defence Minister Khwaja Asif. The account of Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar was also blocked shortly after he alleged that India was planning a military strike based on 'credible intelligence'.

This move follows a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals and left many others injured.

In addition, India has prohibited 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for promoting provocative and sensitive content, along with misleading narratives aimed at undermining India's security and military.

The ban was enacted by the Government of India based on recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs, particularly in light of the recent Pahalgam attack.

The channels affected include prominent names such as Dawn News, ARY NEWS, and Geo News, among others. These platforms were found to be spreading disinformation that threatened India's national security and public order.

Collectively, these channels had amassed a viewership in the crores, propagating false information intended to incite panic and communal discord within India, as stated in an official release.

In response to the attack, India has initiated a robust diplomatic strategy and a series of retaliatory measures. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the assault as a 'cowardly attack on innocent civilians.'

The attack, attributed to the Pakistan-based terror group The Resistance Front, has heightened tensions between the two nations. Following this incident, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Modi, announced several stringent actions, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari-Wagah border, cancellation of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani citizens, expulsion of military attaches from New Delhi, and a reduction in diplomatic personnel at both High Commissions.
