India and Mauritius Enhance Strategic Relations

In a move to bolster its 'Neighborhood First' and 'SAGAR' (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policies in the Indian Ocean region, India has elevated its strategic partnership with Mauritius. During the ninth Indian Ocean Conference, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that India is finalizing a bilateral agreement to supply oil and gas, aimed at enhancing Mauritius's energy security.

Significance of the Agreement

Jaishankar, who is attending the conference in Mauritius, emphasized that the ongoing crisis in West Asia, as highlighted by Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, underscores the importance of strategic partnerships, particularly in the energy sector. He stated, 'We are finalizing a government-to-government agreement for the supply of oil and gas, which will play a crucial role in strengthening Mauritius's energy security.'

The minister expressed his pleasure in learning that an Indian public sector enterprise is developing Mauritius's first floating solar energy project. He remarked, 'There is a broad and dynamic partnership between India and Mauritius in the field of clean energy and environmentally friendly solutions.'
