India's Remarkable Day at the Asian Games

On Day 10 of the Asian Games 2026, India celebrated a significant achievement, highlighted by Neeru Dhanda's historic gold medal in the women's trap shooting event. Additionally, the women's 4x400m relay team secured the nation's first athletics gold of the Games. Overall, India amassed eight medals on Tuesday, which included two golds, one silver, and five bronzes across various sports such as shooting, athletics, and boxing in Aichi-Nagoya.

Historic Achievements in Athletics and Shooting

The women's 4x400m relay team made history by winning India's inaugural athletics gold medal at these Games. The team, consisting of Kiran Pahal, Poovamma MR, Prachi Choudhary, and Vithya Ramraj, finished with a time of 3:29.69, outperforming Bahrain and China, who took silver and bronze, respectively.

Earlier, Neeru Dhanda made headlines by becoming the first Indian woman to earn an individual medal in the women's trap event at the Asian Games, clinching gold with a score of 28 out of 30 in the final. Sun Yunong from China secured silver with 26/30, while Hajar Abdulmalik from the UAE took bronze with 21/25. Neeru also contributed to a silver medal in the women's trap team event alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer, achieving a total score of 328 points.

India's Bronze Medal Achievements

In athletics, Gulveer Singh continued his strong performance by winning bronze in the men's 5000m final, clocking in at 13:32.75. Bahrain's Birhanu Balew took gold with a time of 13:30.79, while Japan's Tomonori Yamaguchi earned silver with 13:31.43.

The mixed 4x100m relay team, featuring Gurindervir Singh, Sneha Sathyanarayan, Animesh Kujur, and Harita Bhadra, also secured bronze with a time of 41.06 seconds. China won gold in this event with a time of 40.78 seconds, and Thailand claimed silver with 40.87 seconds.

Pooja added to India's medal tally by winning bronze in the women's high jump final, achieving a best clearance of 1.84m. She secured her podium finish on countback after a clean record up to that height.

The men's 4x400m relay team, consisting of Dharmveer Choudhary, Manu Thekkinalil, Jay Kumar, and Vishal Thennarasu, also earned bronze with a time of 3:01.61, while Japan and Qatar took gold and silver, respectively.

Boxing and Pole Vault Updates

In boxing, Narender Berwal secured his second consecutive bronze medal in the men's +90kg category after being defeated in the semifinals by Kazakhstan's reigning world champion Aibek Oralbay. Meanwhile, Parveen and Ankush Panghal advanced to the finals in their respective categories after winning their semifinal matches.

Dev Kumar Meena Breaks National Record

Indian pole vaulter Dev Kumar Meena made headlines by setting a new national record in the men's pole vault final with a clearance of 5.50m. This achievement surpassed his previous personal best of 5.46m. Despite his record-breaking jump, he finished seventh in the event. Dev's journey included passing on the 5.05m mark, clearing 5.20m on his second attempt, and achieving 5.35m on his first attempt before his record jump.

Other Victories and Challenges

India also celebrated victories in various other events on Tuesday. The men's volleyball team triumphed over Qatar with a score of 3-2, and the women's squash team advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Iran 3-0. Tennis players Sumit Nagal, Dhakshineswar Suresh, and the men's doubles pair of Anirudh Chandrasekar and N Sriram Balaji progressed in their respective events.

However, there were setbacks as well. Athletes Anushka Yadav and Tanya Chaudhary finished fifth and fourth, respectively, in the women's hammer throw final. Mohammed Afsal placed eighth in the men's 800m final, while Kuldeep Kumar finished 10th in the men's pole vault final. Pooja also finished seventh in the women's 800m final.

In other events, Shapath Bharadwaj ended up eighth in the men's trap individual final after qualifying for the medal round. The men's and women's track cycling teams did not secure podium finishes, and surfer Kishore Kumar Anbarasu was eliminated in the men's shortboard quarterfinal. The women's team sprint cycling campaign also concluded after a loss to Chinese Taipei.
