Athletics Campaign Kicks Off with Two Medals
India commenced its athletics journey at the Asian Games 2026 on Thursday, achieving a remarkable start by winning two medals. The mixed 4x400m relay team secured a silver medal, while Seema Kumari earned a bronze in the women's 10,000m, marking India's first athletics medal of the event.

As of now, India has accumulated a total of 17 medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which includes one gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals.

The relay team, consisting of TS Manu, MR Poovamma, Vishal TK, and Vithya Ramraj, finished with a time of 3:14.46, securing second place behind Bahrain, which set a new Games record with a time of 3:12.87.

Roshibina Devi Naorem secured her second consecutive silver medal in wushu after a 0-2 defeat to China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the women's 60kg sanda final. Zhang dominated the match, winning both rounds decisively.

India's rowing team, featuring Satnam Singh and Salman Khan, earned a bronze medal in the men's double sculls, marking the country's first medal in this event at the Asian Games. They finished the race in 6:13.25, with China and Uzbekistan taking gold and silver, respectively.

Indian sprinters Animesh Kujur and Gurindervir Singh progressed to the men's 100m semifinals after finishing third and second in their respective heats. Kujur clocked 10.36 seconds, while Gurindervir recorded a time of 10.38 seconds.

In hockey, Dilpreet Singh scored a hat-trick, leading India to an impressive 8-2 victory against Korea, maintaining their top position in Pool A.
Mixed Results for Indian Boxers
Parveen was the only Indian boxer to advance, moving to the women's 65kg quarterfinals after receiving a walkover. Sakshi Chaudhary faced a narrow defeat, while Sumit had to withdraw due to a knee injury.

In gymnastics, Pranati Nayak finished sixth in the women's vault final, while Asha Ilango narrowly missed a medal in the women’s triple jump, finishing fourth.
