India's Stellar Performance at the T20 World Cup Final
Ahmedabad: The Indian cricket team showcased an outstanding batting display at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, amassing a remarkable total of 255 runs against New Zealand. This score marks the highest ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final. Previously, India had set a score of 176 runs at the last World Cup in 2026, where Rohit Sharma's team emerged victorious.
Sanju Samson, opening the innings, played a phenomenal knock of 89 runs off 46 balls, hitting 5 fours and 8 sixes, marking his third consecutive half-century. Abhishek Sharma contributed significantly with a quick 52 runs from just 21 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes, while Ishan Kishan added 54 runs off 25 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Shivam Dube also made a notable impact in the final over.
After winning the toss, New Zealand's Mitchell Santner opted to bowl first. The Indian team, unchanged from their previous match, sent out the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. Following an unsuccessful LBW appeal against Matt Henry, Sanju opened the scoring with a six. By the end of the fourth over, India had already scored 51 runs.
Abhishek Sharma achieved the fastest fifty of the T20 World Cup 2026 in just 18 balls, but was dismissed shortly after. Sanju completed his half-century in the 11th over, continuing his impressive form.
James Neesham made a significant impact by taking 3 wickets in a single over, dismissing both Ishan Kishan and the captain, Suryakumar Yadav, who failed to score. Hardik Pandya also fell for 18 runs. In the final over, Shivam Dube struck Neesham for 24 runs, finishing with an unbeaten 26 runs. Neesham was the standout bowler for New Zealand with 3 wickets.
