India Sets Challenging Target of 250 Runs Against West Indies in T20I
India's Dominant Batting Performance
In the second T20I match of the five-match series held at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi, India posted an impressive total of 249 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, thanks to Sanju Samson's explosive innings of 82 runs off just 41 balls. Key contributions also came from Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Tilak Varma, setting a challenging target of 250 runs for the West Indies.
West Indies Opt to Bowl First
After winning the toss, West Indies captain Shai Hope chose to bowl first. However, India's batsmen started aggressively, maintaining a scoring rate of over 12 runs per over, culminating in a total of 249 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Samson's Explosive Knock
India faced an early setback with the dismissal of opener Abhishek Sharma, who scored 20 runs off 12 balls. Nevertheless, Samson took control of the innings, attacking both pace and spin bowlers. He reached his half-century in just 21 balls and finished with 82 runs, including nine fours and four sixes.
Kishan's Quickfire Contribution
Ishan Kishan supported the innings with a brisk 43 runs off 22 balls, featuring six fours and two sixes. The partnership between Samson and Kishan was pivotal, as they added 97 runs for the second wicket, propelling India past the 100-run mark by the ninth over.
West Indies Fight Back
Roston Chase played a crucial role in bringing West Indies back into contention by taking the wickets of Kishan and Shivam Dube, who managed only seven runs off 10 balls. Chase ended his spell with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 24 runs in four overs. Shamar Springer also contributed by dismissing Samson in the 15th over.
Iyer and Varma's Late-Game Surge
Despite the loss of wickets, Shreyas Iyer, who was the centurion in the previous match, and Tilak Varma maintained a high scoring rate. They scored 21 runs in the 18th over bowled by Springer, bringing India's score to 215/4. In the final over, Varma launched an aggressive assault on Springer, hitting three consecutive sixes and accumulating 23 runs in that over. Although Iyer was dismissed, Naman Dhir hit a boundary on the last ball, concluding India's innings at 249/5.
Bowling Highlights for West Indies
Apart from Roston Chase's standout performance, Shamar Springer was the only other wicket-taker for West Indies, claiming two wickets but conceding 64 runs in his four overs.
