India's Upcoming Membership in Pax Silica

New Delhi, Jan 12: The newly appointed US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, announced on Monday that India will receive an invitation next month to become a member of Pax Silica, a strategic technology initiative spearheaded by the United States. This initiative focuses on critical areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and essential supply chains.

Gor emphasized the ongoing trade discussions between India and the US, noting that the next round of talks is anticipated soon.

Upon assuming his role in the capital, Gor mentioned that both nations are in constant communication as negotiations progress.

He assured that discussions have not come to a halt, despite existing differences regarding tariffs and market access.

In his initial remarks after taking office, Gor highlighted the sustained momentum in trade dialogues between India and the US.

While he refrained from disclosing specific agenda items, he indicated that follow-up meetings between officials from both countries are on the horizon.

Before starting his duties, Gor expressed gratitude to Donald Trump for the opportunity to serve in India.

He stated that his mission is to enhance the relationship between what he referred to as the world’s oldest and largest democracies.

Gor also conveyed that Trump had sent his best wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the rapport between the two leaders as authentic and robust.

“True friends can have disagreements but can also resolve them,” Gor remarked, alluding to the ongoing trade negotiations.

Additionally, the US ambassador confirmed that India will be invited to join Pax Silica as a full member next month.

This membership is expected to significantly enhance cooperation between India and the US in sectors like semiconductors, AI, and critical supply chains.

Gor characterized Pax Silica as a US-led initiative launched last month aimed at establishing a secure and innovation-driven silicon supply chain.

The initiative encompasses various aspects, including critical minerals, energy inputs, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, AI, and logistics.

Countries that participated in the first phase of this initiative include Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Israel.

“I am delighted to announce that India will be invited to join this coalition of nations as a full member next month,” Gor stated.

On a broader diplomatic note, Gor remarked that India and the US have a unique opportunity to redefine global partnerships.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between India and the United States as new technologies emerge, highlighting the need to work together from the outset of such initiatives.
