Current COVID-19 Situation in India

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has reported an increase in active COVID-19 cases, now totaling 2,710, with the majority of infections occurring in Kerala. After a period of relative calm, the country has witnessed a surge in coronavirus cases, with a fivefold increase in infections during the week ending May 25, surpassing the 1,000 mark. The statistics reveal that Kerala has recorded 1,147 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 424, Delhi with 294, and Gujarat with 223. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu each reported 148 cases, while West Bengal noted 116 cases.


COVID-19 Fatalities and Monitoring Efforts

The released figures indicate that since January 2025, there have been two COVID-related deaths in Delhi, including a 60-year-old woman who died due to acute intestinal obstruction. In Kerala, five fatalities have been attributed to the virus, while Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of deaths in January 2025, totaling seven. Overall, there have been 22 deaths across all states. The central health department, along with the Ministry of AYUSH, is actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation in collaboration with health secretaries and relevant ministers from various states.


New Cases in Mizoram and Kerala's Assurance

After a seven-month hiatus, Mizoram has reported two new COVID-19 cases, currently being treated at Zoram Medical College and Hospital. The last reported case in the state was in October 2024, affecting 73 individuals. In Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has reassured residents about the low number of COVID cases, stating that there is no cause for concern. The state currently has 727 active cases, primarily concentrated in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha.
