In a gripping encounter, India managed to defeat the West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20I of the five-match series, held in Indore on Sunday. This victory keeps India ahead in the series with a score of 2-1.

Despite facing a batting collapse from 115/1 to 135/5, India posted a total of 223 runs. Key contributions from bowlers Arshdeep Singh (3/44) and Naman Dhir (2/39) were crucial in limiting the West Indies to 209/7.

West Indies' Struggle in the Chase

The West Indies began their innings poorly, losing their captain Shai Hope for just five runs, bowled out by Arshdeep Singh. They found themselves at 7/1 within the first two overs.

A partnership between Shimron Hetmyer and Kamil Pooran briefly put pressure back on India, scoring 19 runs in the fourth over. Hetmyer continued to attack, hitting two boundaries in the final over of the powerplay, bringing the score to 54 runs after six overs.

Hetmyer struck a few more boundaries but was eventually dismissed by Naman Dhir for 43 runs off 26 balls, leaving the West Indies at 67/2.

Rovman Powell fell shortly after, becoming Axar Patel's first wicket for just five runs, leaving the West Indies at 82/3.

At the halfway mark, the score stood at 84/3, with Pooran and Rutherford at the crease.

Kamil Pooran hit three sixes in the 11th over but was dismissed by Naman Dhir for 42 runs, leaving the West Indies at 105/4.

By the end of the 15th over, the West Indies were at 149/4, with Quentin Sampson and Sherfane Rutherford at the crease. Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Sampson for 21 runs, bringing the score to 151/5.

In the 18th over, Arshdeep Singh took two crucial wickets, leaving the West Indies at 174/7.

Shamar Springer attempted a late surge with three sixes in the final over but the West Indies finished at 209/7, with Springer remaining unbeaten on 35 runs off 11 balls.

India's Batting Performance

Earlier, India’s innings was highlighted by a powerful half-century from Abhishek Sharma, who formed a significant partnership with Ishan Kishan, helping the team reach 223 runs in their allotted overs. Despite a mid-innings collapse, India managed to recover.

After being put to bat first, India struggled initially, losing Sanju Samson early on. However, Abhishek broke the shackles with aggressive batting, hitting two sixes and a four off Roston Chase.

Abhishek, who became the sixth Indian to reach 2,000 runs in T20Is, dominated the West Indies bowlers, leading India to 50 runs in just over four overs.

The duo of Abhishek and Ishan continued to score freely, reaching the 100-run mark in the seventh over.

However, the West Indies struck back, with Roston dismissing Ishan for 37 runs, and soon after, Shreyas Iyer fell for just one run.

Abhishek was eventually dismissed for 69 runs, leading to a batting collapse as India slipped to 135/5.

Despite the setbacks, India managed to reach 223 runs, with contributions from the middle order, although they missed out on a potentially higher total.
