Skipper Shubman Gill and KL Rahul both scored centuries, while debutant Manav Suthar shone with the ball, taking six wickets. This victory marks India's largest win by innings in Test history, although it does not affect their standing in the ICC World Test Championship. India's Remarkable Win

In a stunning display, India triumphed over Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in a one-off Test match held in New Chandigarh on Monday. The victory was propelled by impressive centuries from captain Shubman Gill and KL Rahul, along with a stellar debut from spin all-rounder Manav Suthar.

India declared their first innings at a formidable 564/8, thanks to the batting prowess of Rahul and Gill. The bowling attack, led by Suthar (6/33) and Washington Sundar (4/36), secured India's largest win by innings in Test history.

Despite this significant victory, it is important to note that the match did not contribute to the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings, where India currently ranks sixth.

India's Dominant First Innings

Winning the toss, India chose to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a brisk start with 24 runs, but was dismissed early, leaving KL Rahul to build a solid partnership with Sai Sudharsan, who scored 81 runs.

Rahul achieved his third Test century at home, scoring 100 runs off 165 balls, but was out on the next delivery. By the end of Day 1, India stood at 368/3, with Gill (103*) and Rishabh Pant (50*) at the crease.

The partnership between Gill and Pant flourished, adding 169 runs for the fourth wicket. Gill finished with 126 runs, while Pant narrowly missed a century, contributing 81 runs. Lower-order contributions from Washington Sundar (52*), Mohammed Siraj (22), and Manav Suthar (28) helped India reach 564/8.

Suthar's Impressive Debut

Afghanistan struggled on Day 2, ending at 113/5, with Rahmat Shah remaining not out on 43. Suthar's exceptional bowling dismantled the Afghan batting lineup, as he became the 10th Indian to take five wickets on debut, finishing with figures of 6/33.

Afghanistan was bowled out for just 152 runs, with Rahmat (60) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (20) being the only players to score above 20.

Spinners Lead to Historic Victory

In the second innings, India enforced the follow-on, and their spinners continued to dominate. Sundar (4/36), Kuldeep Yadav (3/30), and Suthar (1/29) were instrumental in restricting Afghanistan to 112 all out.

Sediqullah Atal (42) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (24) were the only Afghan batsmen to make significant contributions. This remarkable win not only boosts India's confidence but also surpasses their previous record against the West Indies by an innings and 272 runs in 2018.

The only larger innings victory on Indian soil remains the West Indies' win over India in 1958, by an innings and 336 runs. Pakistan also holds a record for an innings win against New Zealand by 324 runs.

India's next challenge will be a two-match Test series against New Zealand scheduled for November.
