India Secures Approval for Asia Cup 2025 Match Against Pakistan
India vs Pakistan Match Confirmation
The Indian Sports Ministry has officially authorized Team India to compete in the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2025 match against Pakistan, scheduled for September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This crucial Group A encounter had faced uncertainty until the ministry released a new policy on Thursday, outlining regulations for India's international sports engagements, particularly with Pakistan.
Policy on Sports Events with Pakistan
The ministry's policy indicates that India's stance on sporting events involving Pakistan mirrors its broader diplomatic approach towards the nation. It specifies, 'In terms of bilateral sports events hosted in each other's countries, Indian teams will refrain from participating in competitions in Pakistan, and Pakistani teams will not be allowed to compete in India.'
Multilateral Events Allowed
Under the new guidelines, India will continue to avoid bilateral series with Pakistan but will participate in multilateral events like the Asia Cup. This means that Suryakumar Yadav's team is set to compete in the tournament as planned. Sources have confirmed that this directive is effective immediately, alleviating the uncertainty that had surrounded the Asia Cup schedule released last month.
A ministry source stated, 'We will not prevent the Indian cricket team from participating in the Asia Cup since it is a multilateral event.' However, they reiterated that Pakistan would not be permitted to engage in bilateral competitions on Indian soil, while still adhering to the Olympic Charter for multilateral events.
