India Responds to Trump's Criticism: Strengthening Ties Amid Challenges
India's Resilient Partnership with the US
New Delhi: On Friday, India dismissed the recent remarks made by US President Donald Trump, asserting that the bilateral relationship has successfully navigated numerous transitions and challenges.
This statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) followed Trump's announcement of a 25% tariff on Indian goods, during which he labeled the Indian economy as 'dead.'
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized, 'India and the United States maintain a comprehensive global strategic partnership based on mutual interests, democratic principles, and strong interpersonal connections.'
'Our partnership has withstood various transitions and challenges,' he noted during a weekly media briefing.
Jaiswal expressed confidence that both nations would continue to advance their relationship, focusing on the substantive agenda they have committed to.
When asked about defense relations between India and the US, he highlighted the robust defense collaboration that has been fortified over recent years, indicating potential for further growth.
Regarding India's energy procurement strategy, Jaiswal stated that it is primarily driven by national interests, guided by market offerings and the current global landscape.
