India's Stance on Dalai Lama's Future Remarks
In response to recent comments made by the Dalai Lama regarding the future of his institution, India has clarified that it does not take a position on matters related to religious beliefs or practices. Ranadhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), addressed media inquiries on this topic, stating that they have noted the reports concerning the Dalai Lama's statements about the continuity of his institution. He emphasized that the Indian government does not engage in such religious matters and reaffirmed its long-standing position.
Jaiswal reiterated that the Indian government maintains a neutral stance on issues related to faith and religious practices. He highlighted India's constitutional commitment to uphold the freedom of religion for all citizens and assured that this commitment will continue.
China has expressed discontent over comments made by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who stated that the Dalai Lama should choose his successor according to his wishes. The Chinese government has urged India to handle Tibet-related issues with care to avoid negatively impacting bilateral relations. During a press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded to questions regarding Rijiju's remarks, asserting that India should be clear about the 14th Dalai Lama's separatist tendencies and respect its commitments concerning issues related to 'Shizhang' (Tibet), as China refers to the region.
