India Responds to US Commission's Allegations

The United States has a long-standing tendency to lecture others while ignoring its own issues. Recently, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) released a report that India deems biased and misleading, targeting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and India's intelligence agency.

In response, the Indian government firmly dismissed the report. Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that the commission has consistently portrayed a distorted and selective image of India over the years. He emphasized that the report is based on dubious sources and ideological agendas rather than facts, undermining the commission's credibility.

US Commission's Credibility Questioned

It is important to note that the USCIRF is influenced by the political structure of the United States, with its members appointed by the President and political leaders, raising questions about its impartiality. Despite this, the commission attempts to distribute knowledge on religious freedom globally while remaining silent on issues such as attacks on temples and rising intolerance against the Indian community within the US.

The extent of racial discrimination in the US is well-known, yet there is little concern about the growing economic disparity or the frequent gun violence incidents. Videos often surface showing individuals in dire conditions on the streets of major cities, yet the focus remains on crafting reports about religious freedom and human rights in other countries.

India's Sovereignty at Stake

The latest USCIRF report attempts to label India as a country of particular concern, suggesting that arms sales and trade policies should be linked to religious freedom. This not only directly attacks India's sovereignty but also indicates that the US intends to use its economic and strategic interests as leverage. However, India is no longer a nation that can be pressured in this manner.

Regarding the RSS, this organization has been dedicated to social harmony, service, and nation-building for over a century. Whether it is providing aid during disasters or continuously supporting marginalized communities, RSS volunteers are always at the forefront. Recommending a ban on such an organization is not only absurd but also reflects a complete ignorance of India's ground realities.

RSS's Commitment to Nation-Building

The USCIRF should understand that since its inception, the RSS has prioritized nation-building. Throughout various challenges since independence, the RSS has maintained a commitment to democracy and constitutional institutions. Despite facing numerous obstacles, the organization continues to serve the nation and society steadfastly, akin to a large banyan tree. However, those drafting the report in Washington may not grasp this reality. If they wish to learn about patriotism, selfless service, and pride in culture, they should visit RSS branches.

Similarly, targeting India's intelligence agency, RAW, which works tirelessly for national security, appears to be a calculated scheme. This agency plays a crucial role in protecting the country from external threats, and questioning its operations only serves to empower forces that seek to destabilize India.

Misrepresentation of Religious Freedom in India

The US report also claims that the situation regarding religious freedom in India has deteriorated, alleging that minorities are being targeted and laws are being tightened in various states. However, these accusations are based on incomplete facts. It is fundamentally incorrect to generalize isolated incidents in a vast and diverse country like India, where over a billion people coexist across various religions, which is its true strength.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has rightly questioned when the US will address the attacks on temples, the rising violence against people of Indian origin, and the atmosphere of fear in its own country. Are the conditions on American streets an ideal example of religious freedom? If not, how can they claim the moral authority to preach to others?

India's Stance on External Criticism

It is noteworthy that this commission has previously issued similar reports against India, each time receiving a robust response. India has made it clear that any attempt to undermine its democratic framework, pluralistic society, and cultural diversity will not succeed. The truth is that such efforts stem from anxiety over India's rising global stature. When a nation progresses rapidly, certain powers resort to such tactics to hinder its growth. However, India is now aware of these schemes and responds firmly.

Ultimately, it can be said that the US should first address its internal issues before advising others. India does not require validation; it holds a unique position in the world based on its diversity, tolerance, and democratic values, and will continue to do so.
