India's Response to US Legislation on Russian Oil

In light of a proposed bill in the US Congress that suggests imposing a 500% tax on countries purchasing oil from Russia, India has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring "affordable energy" for its 1.4 billion citizens amidst shifting global market conditions. During a press briefing on Friday, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jaiswal, stated that New Delhi is aware of the proposed legislation and is closely monitoring the developments surrounding it.

Jaiswal emphasized, "We are informed about the proposed bill and are keeping a close watch on the situation." He reiterated India's long-term stance on energy sources, highlighting that decisions made by New Delhi are driven by the country's energy security needs and the realities of the market.
