EAM Jaishankar's Statement on Military Actions
India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, has made significant remarks regarding the cessation of gunfire and military operations between India and Pakistan. He stated that the objectives set to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure have been successfully achieved. With these key goals met, he believes that the approach taken was appropriate, as they had communicated to Pakistan at the onset of operations that their focus was on targeting terrorist structures rather than the military. He emphasized that the military had the option to remain uninvolved and not intervene.
Criticism of Pakistan's Response
While addressing Pakistan, Jaishankar pointed out that they chose to ignore this sound advice. He noted that on the morning of May 10, Pakistan suffered significant damage, as evidenced by satellite imagery showing the extent of destruction inflicted by India compared to the minimal damage on their side. This clearly indicates who was interested in halting the gunfire. The External Affairs Minister reiterated that India's relationship and dealings with Pakistan would be strictly bilateral, a stance that has remained unchanged for years.
Focus on Terrorism in Future Talks
Jaishankar further clarified that Prime Minister Modi has made it clear that discussions with Pakistan will solely revolve around terrorism. He mentioned that Pakistan possesses a list of terrorists that need to be addressed and must take action to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure. They are aware of the necessary steps to take, and India is prepared to engage in discussions regarding terrorism. He highlighted the substantial international support received, including a proposal from the United Nations Security Council emphasizing the need to hold criminals accountable, which was acted upon through Operation Sindoor on May 7.
