On Friday, India announced that it is closely observing developments related to a proposed US bill that aims to impose tariffs of up to 100% on Russian crude oil purchases by India, China, and several other nations. This bill has been drafted by Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal and the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. Reports indicate that nearly 60 senators in the US are backing this legislation.

Official Response from the Ministry of External Affairs

During a routine press briefing, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India is keeping a close watch on these developments and is fully informed about the proposed legislation. In response to a question regarding the purchase of Russian oil, he clarified that India sources its oil from various countries based on its energy needs and perspectives.

Concerns Over Changes in US Visa Policies

In addition to the oil tariff issue, India has also expressed its views on recent changes to US visa policies. The US has tightened visa regulations for foreign students, participants in exchange programs, and journalists, effectively ending a long-standing policy that allowed them to stay indefinitely without government oversight. This new measure is expected to impact a significant number of Indian citizens.
